About Final Fantasy IV/II

FFIV is an RPG (role-playing game) in which a man named Cecil sets out on an adventure to find himself, and turns into a huge expedition to save the world with the help of 8 magical crystals found in various locations across (and within) the globe.  The game was originally released on Super Nintendo as 'Final Fantasy II', but was re-translated and configured more to be like the original Japanese release when the game was re-released on Sony Playstation as 'Final Fantasy IV'.

About Kain Highwind

Kain is Cecil's best friend since childhood, but his mind is warped against him and he is controlled by the dark forces who seek the crystals.  Kain alternates in the game between being a comrade and an enemy, but eventually fights at the end by Cecil's side to destroy Zemus.  He is a class Dragoon, and has amazing jumping powers.

About Rydia of Mist

When Cecil and Kain first meet Rydia, she is a small child who has just lost her mother.  She lives in the town that Cecil and Kain are sent to destroy, but she uses her magical summoning abilities to call on Titan, and she and Cecil are thrown outside the town.  She is lost at one point to Leviathan and is pulled down to the Land of Summoned Monsters, where time passes differently.  She ages near 10 years and then rejoins your party to help you defeat Zemus.

About Kain and Rydia

Kain and Rydia are not conventionally put together as a couple.  In FFIV, Rydia is vaguely associated to be in a relationship with the Ninja Edge, and Kain is in love with Cecil's bride Rosa.  However, they have a good amount of interaction and time in the game spent together, and it could be possible that they would forge a relationship from the journey they embarked on together.  Personally, I never much liked Edge, and I thought that Kain and Rydia were very good for each other, even though this couple is never hinted at in the game.
